Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Capo, Pegau 2000
Current Winning Bidder:  New Item   Starting Bid:  $465   Quantity Available: 1   "a monument to old vine Grenache as well as traditionally made Chateauneuf du Pape. Boasting a natural alcohol of 16%, this wine, which was bottled in spring, 2003 because its fermentation was extremely slow, has virtually everything you could ever want in a profound Chateauneuf du Pape. The color is inky/ruby/purple to the rim. The nose reveals aromas of kirsch liqueur, new saddle leather, animal fur, Provencal herbs, spice box and licorice. On the palate, the wine is enormous, with an unctuosity, thickness, and purity that must be tasted to be believed. Over 95% of this offering is old vine Grenache, and the rest a field blend of ancient vines. Representing the essence of Chateauneuf du Pape, it possesses so much concentration that it iseasy to pose the question ... “where’s the tannin?” Analytically, it has very high levels of tannin, but the tannin is barely noticeable given the wine’s exaggerated wealth of richness and power. This is a modern day legend in the making, and despite its precociousness and ease in smelling and consuming, it will not hit its prime for another decade. It should last for 25-30 years, and take its place among some of the greatest Chateauneuf du Papes ever made. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2030+" RP

Frightfully concentrated with layers of glycerin and fruit, it should prove to be one of the appellation's greatest classics." RP

Hermitage Blanc, Chave 2005
Current Winning Bidder:  New Item   Starting Bid:  $185   Quantity Available: 3   "Fabulously complex nose evokes honeyed pear, apricot, shiso leaf and botanical herbs. Creamy orchard fruit flavors are firmed by juicy minerality, becoming brighter and more bitter with air. This has the texture of a serious red wine, offering dense, chewy pear, yellow plum and peach skin flavors and picking up licorice and toasted nuts on the long, sappy finish, which ends with a whiplash of smoky minerals. Does this ever let up? An incredible young wine" ST

Hermitage Ex Voto, Guigal 2003
Current Winning Bidder:  New Item   Starting Bid:  $510   Quantity Available: 1   "The 2003 Hermitage Ex-Voto is one of the most profound red Hermitages ever made. Fashioned from some of Guigal’s favorite Hermitage parcels, Les Bessards (30%), Les Greffieux (30%), l’Hermite (20%), and Les Murets (20%), it is not as over the top as one might suspect, but it is off the charts in terms of richness, intensity, and full-bodied power. Amazing flavors of creme de cassis, black truffles, fudge, and earth are found in this superb, rich, profoundly great Hermitage. It should hit its peak in 5-7 years, and will last for a half century." RP

Hermitage L`Ermite, Chapoutier 1999
Current Winning Bidder:  New Item   Starting Bid:  $220   Quantity Available: 1   "The 1999 Ermitage l'Ermite is a wine that borders on perfection...only 400 cases were produced...represents the essence of both Hermitage and Syrah...reveals an old style Lafleur character in its kirsch liqueur intermixed with raspberries, blackberries, and striking minerality. It has put on considerable weight since last year, but is essentially an elegant, ethereal effort with incredible intensity as well as amazing lightness. It is a phenomenal expression of terroir." RP

The modern day equivalent of the 1961, it deserves all the attention it has garnered. Spectacular aromatics offer up aromas of incense, smoke, blackberry fruit, cassis, barbecue spice, coffee, and a touch of chocolate. As it sits in the glass, additional nuances of pepper and grilled steak emerge. An inky/blue/purple color is followed by a subtle but impressively intense nose of barbecue smoke, creme de cassis, blueberries, blackberries, and white flowers. The wine cascades over the palate with extraordinary richness, intensity, and silkiness. This seamlessly constructed Hermitage is, analytically, high in tannin, but extremely low in acidity, with a freaky accessibility (a vintage character).
