Rare Dr. Loosen auction wines to be offered on the Web for the first time
For the first time ever, a top German wine estate will offer its
limited-production "auction" wines exclusively through an Internet
auction site. The highly regarded Dr. Loosen estate in Germany's
Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region will make the move to cyber-land with its
1999 Ürziger Würzgarten Spätlese and 1999 Erdener Prälat Long Gold
Capsule Auslese auction wines. This special auction will be online in
the Pine Room at www.BrentwoodWine.com beginning Friday, September 8,
and ending on Tuesday, September 19.
These rare vinous treasures are normally sold at a standard auction
in Trier, Germany, each September, where they attract furious
bidding. When the gavel fell last year, the ultra-ripe, 100 percent
botrytis-selected 1998 Dr. Loosen Erdener Prälat Long Gold Capsule
Auslese had sold for an astonishing 650DM (about $325) per bottle - a
new auction record. The intense and scintillating, berry-selected
Ürziger Würzgarten Spätlese reached 49DM ($24.50). This year, 399
bottles of the Spätlese and just 72 bottles of the Long Gold Capsule
Auslese will be available for auction.
"We felt it was time to move into the 21st century with our auction
wines," says Ernst Loosen, current owner of the Dr. Loosen estate.
"With the Internet, everyone has a chance to bid on the wines no
matter where they are in the world. This way it's not limited to just
the people who can come to Germany every year."
"We're very excited to be working with Dr. Loosen," says Dave Parker,
president of Brentwood Wine Company, one of the longest-running
auction sites on the Web. "This is exactly the kind of high-quality,
exclusive auction event that we are always looking for at Brentwood."
To participate in the auction, bidders need only visit the Brentwood
Wine Company Web site and register. Once the auction begins, the site
features an AutoBid option that automatically outbids competing
bidders, up to a specified limit. Visit the site at
www.BrentwoodWine.com for complete auction details.
